Back from the Quilters

I am so pleased with the quilting. Once again a great job by Karen and Paul.

This border fabric works so well.

These last two photos make the quilt look very washed out. The colours are much stronger brown, pink, red and gold the colour combination I seem to use often. With Janine's much appreciated help the binding is sewn on so officially finished.

Happy sewing

Boarder found

Yes ! found at last the perfect fabric. This quilt top has been waiting a long time for that boarder and wouldn't you know it has been sitting on the shelf at Somerset for some time now. Oh well better late than never.

One of the corner blocks has been signed by An Moonen
A photo of the original quilt appears in the beautiful book A History of Dutch Quilts by An Moonen. Last year when An was in Melbourne she signed my quilt for me.

So now it is ready to go to the quilters. Hint Hint Karen!

Ring of Roses

The Friday girls continue to set a high standard of workmanship and creativity. It has been a pleasure
to share their journey. We have had such fun choosing fabric and colours for these two Ring of Roses quilts that started with the same inspiration.

This beauty belongs to Ros

This blue and caramel beauty belongs to Leigh

Look at these just waiting to play.

Mothers Day

Yesterday we had our traditional mothers day family gathering. My mums birthday often fell on the same day and as this is the first mothers day without her my sister Janine and I decided to create a new memory of mum. We started by breaking some of mums china something I don't think mum would have been to pleased about. It was a beautiful day in Melbourne yesterday lots of sunshine and a light wind.

waiting to be smashed

Picking the right piece

Sticking in place

Ready to grout
So now we each have small pieces of those special cups, saucers and plates. The things I remember from when I was young that you only got to use for best.

We all had a great day. A few tears but lots of smiles and laughs and good memories. Happy Birthday Mum. Love and miss you.

Ring of Roses

Ring of Roses is a new quilt pattern of mine which I taught as a one day class at Somerset during summer school.Yesterday Karen held a summer school reunion during which we where able to catch up on the progress of these stunning quilts.Teachers and students had a great day filled with lots of chatter good food and of cause good company.

So many lovely fabric combinations.

So much fussy cutting.

It is wonderful to me as a teacher to see students adding there own creativity.
Glenda has really played with shapes and colour making Ring of Roses her own.

Strong and soft colour combinations.

And fussy cutting to die for.

.

Bye for now
